For the better part of the past four years, Devonport has been keeping word about an 82-meter (269-foot) yacht under tight wraps. Referred to only as Project 54, she represented the largest megayacht the UK-based yard had signed in its history (until Project 55 was signed more than a year ago, even though her LOA hasn’t been publicly released). The next time you need a secret kept, call the shipyard, because nary a leak came out, even with the most mundane of details.

Well, the confidentiality agreement relaxed somewhat, as Devonport recently released a few particulars. Within her six-deck structure is a glass-topped atrium and a “winter garden”-style dining room on the upper deck that can be open or enclosed thanks to sliding glass screens. There’s also an inside/outside spa with a retractable roof on the sun deck, forward of the helipad. The interior, designed by Andrew Winch Designs, borrows elements from the grand hotels of Italy. And just like any proper megayacht, Project 54 has plentiful toys, ranging from PWCs to a car (yes, a car).

When the yacht exited her build shed at Devonport, yacht-watchers got not just a good look at her, but also at her name: In the photo here, taken recently by Peter Powell/Monacoeye.com, you’ll see it’s Sarafsa. And earlier this month a yacht-watcher with a video camera happened to be on hand when the secretive Sarafsa departed the yard. Watch his clip here, and see if you’ll agree with my assessment that she’s one of the most stylish launches of the year.

I saw the Sarafsa moored off Portofino on the 22nd April 2009. I also have photos of it and of it's dinghy "Diva Royal 900" in the port with the Prince getting back onto it.
